Eye-Fi SD-Card

This is one of the cooler gadgets I have purchased in a while. It’s called the Eye-Fi. If you haven’t heard about it, its seems like a normal SD card that you can put into most cameras. Its different from other memory cards because it has a WiFi (wireless) chip in it that allows you to wirelessly send pictures you’ve taken to you’re favorite photo sharing sites.

For me, I have the Eye-Fi card uploading my pictures to my Flickr account. It takes place seamlessly and transparently. The thing to keep in mind (and not obvious when you buy it) is that it needs a host computer (Mac or PC) to connect to. Secondly, you have to manually configure wireless routers that you would want the card to connect to for transferring. The configuration can be done by putting the Eye-Fi card into the USB reader (that comes with it) and connecting it to the host computer. The Eye-Fi Manager will detect the card automatically and take you to the configuration tool.

Check out the Eye-Fi site for more information.

Play/Pause iPhone music without headphones

I discovered earlier today by accident…. Have you listened to music on your iPhone without headphones and wanted to play / pause? Usually I would have woken up the iPhone from sleep, unlocked, selected iPod if it wasn’t already playing and then hit pause.
Easier way: While you iPhone is asleep or you are in any other application double-click the home button and quick access play/pause/rewind/forward overlay/popup appears. With this now you can do what you wish without going to the iPod app.Hope this helps you as much as it did for me!!

ZiPhone 2.3 works best for iPhone 1.1.1 OTB and above!!

If you’re read the previous posts, make sure you use ZiPhone 2.3 and you’ll be fine. Works for both of my iPhones.

iPhone stuck constantly rebooting on Apple logo after using ZiPhone

So in my previous post I used ZiPhone 2.1 to do the “upgrade” to 1.1.3. I just happen to do my first reboot after the upgrading to 1.1.3 and it seems that my iPhone is stuck rebooting and all it shows is the Apple logo like this: iPhone-stuck-bootingUnfortunately, I haven’t figured out what the heck is wrong with it… So to fix it:

  1. I put it on restore mode
  2. Used iTunes to restore to 1.1.3
  3. Used ZiPhone 2.2 to activate/jailbreak/unlock

It’s all back to normal but I lost all my music so I’ll have to resync with Mac. Whenever I get some time I will try a reboot and see if it dies or not. Obviously if it doesn’t then ZiPhone 2.2 fixed the 2.1 bug. Otherwise it still looms.

Extremely Easy 1.1.3, 1.1.2, … OTB Unlock Solution!

UPDATE: After the unlocking do not reboot. At least for it happen to get stuck at the reboot stage and never starts up. Not sure what’s wrong but see the next post. In my experience of unlocking 1.1.1 OTB, 1.1.2 OTB, 1.1.3 OTB this is by far the easiest solution ever! Its called ZiPhone.

ZiPhone

 Basically, all you do is:

  1.  Use iTunes to install the latest version of the iPhone firmware (1.1.3 right now)
  2. Run iPhone on Mac OS X Leopard or Windows
  3. Check off Activate, Jailbreak, Unlock (supports both 4.6 and 3.9 BL)
  4. It will take your iPhone through an automated upgrade path. Don’t worry you will see a lot of verbose command-line text on your iPhone but its part of upgrade.

And that’s it! You will ned up with a 1.1.3 iPhone. I did this to both an 1.1.3 OTB and 1.1.2 OTB and they both ran fine. My 1.1.2 OTB had already been unlocked and it kept all of my settings and content (i.e. so my mail, music, notes, …) all stayed in place. Highly recommend this as way to upgrade your iPhone.Have fun!Need more details? Check out this modmyiphone thread.

1.1.2 / 1.1.3 OTB iPhone Unlock…

So I finally unlocked my 1.1.2 OTB iPhone tonight. The instructions on the typical websites work but with one exception. So, the instructions are:

  1. Restore your iPhone to 1.1.1.
  2. Jailbreak it, using the jailbreakme.com method.
  3. Install BSD Subsystem (under System) which is required for the next step.
  4. Install the 1.1.2-1.1.3 OTB G-Unlock package (Tweaks 1.1.3).
  5. Install OkToPrep (Tweaks 1.1.1)
  6. Then, update the firmware version to 1.1.2 and jailbreak it using 1.1.2 jailbreak by Conceited Software.

After step 6, my iPhone would get stuck on the restore screen with the USB cable (and slider for emergency). I thought I was doing something wrong and repeated a few times… but then I tried iNdependence (from Step 2) to get it out of this stuck phase. Boom! It was fixed and now I am running 1.1.2 unlocked! So here’s the revised instructions:

  7. If your iPhone gets stuck in the restore screen, use iNdependence from Step 2 to free it up. (Ignore its comments that it won’t work for 1.1.2).

The following are guides that helped me through this process:
